Coffee is Key

New study: popular drink (black coffee) might reduce your risk of premature death from serious illness!

If the first thing you do in the morning is to make yourself a nice cup of coffee to get the day started, it might be a good idea to pay attention.

Drinking “black gold” can be beneficial – far beyond just getting you through the day.

Researchers from Tufts University in the United States have investigated how many cups of coffee you should drink to avoid dying prematurely from serious diseases.

They came up with a specific number that can allegedly improve your chances of longevity.

“High coffee consumption was associated with lower mortality,” according to the researchers, who specifically analysed if participants died prematurely from cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Their study also showed that the way in which you drink your coffee seems to matter.

Multiple cups of coffee a day are beneficial

Many people around the world drink coffee.

The US researchers examined data from 46,222 adults who had provided information about their health and their daily coffee consumption.

The analyses demonstrated that 1-2 cups of coffee a day appeared to reduce the risk of premature death by 16 %, and that 2-3 cups of coffee a day reduced the risk of premature death by 17 %, when the researchers made comparisons to the control group.

However, the researchers also noted that it mattered whether the coffee was consumed with or without sugar and added fat.

The beneficial effects of coffee were limited to those who consumed black coffee or coffee with low sugar and fat content.

Science Illustrated asked the researchers how low the sugar content should be and what the term fat involves, but they have not yet responded.

The study has been published in The Journal of Nutrition.
